Raiders Drop Marathon Contest To Begin NCAA Tournament

Box Score

WHITEWATER, Wis. – MSOE baseball continued their historic season by playing in their first ever NCAA tournament game this morning against UW-Whitewater. The contest turned into a marathon however and included two separate lengthy rain delays. Unfortunately, the Raiders were on the wrong end of the score after five hours of play in a 10-6 loss on Friday.

RESULTS
No. 4 MSOE RAIDERS – 6
No. 1 UW-Whitewater – 10

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • No. 4 seed MSOE (27-16, 18-6 NACC) got off to a good start when Brandon Beauchamp led off the game with a ground rule double, but the Raiders couldn't get the senior in from third base. On the other side of the field, top seeded UW-Whitewater (33-8, 25-3 WIAC) got off to an even better start when they deposited a leadoff home run over the left centerfield fence. They'd later score in the same inning to go up by two after each team's first trips to the plate.
  • After a few scoreless innings, UWW proceeded to blow things open with six runs in the bottom of the fourth and put their total into double digits with two more in the bottom of the sixth.
  • The Raiders bats finally lit up the scoreboard in the seventh, plating three runs before weather moved into the area and sent the game into a rain delay. They then added another three in the same inning before the rain once again halted play. They ended the frame down 10-6 when all was said and done.
  • Unfortunately, there was nothing else left in the bats. The Warhawks held the Raiders scoreless in both the eighth and ninth innings to take home the four-run win.
