Raiders Score Three Straight To Win Season Opener

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – MSOE men's soccer kicked off the 2022 season tonight against UW-Platteville with a greater goal in mind than just a win. Both teams came together to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association, joining forces to double the impact of their efforts. It didn't hurt that the Raiders took home the victory, though. The Red & White rattled off three straight unanswered to grab win number one on Thursday evening.

RESULT
UW-Platteville – 1
MSOE RAIDERS – 3

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UW-Platteville (0-1) jumped out to a quick lead in this evening's ballgame, putting MSOE (1-0) down by one after just 1:02 in their season opener. The Pioneers could have doubled that advantage just moments later, but the goal was waved off thanks to the play being offsides.
  • Zach Thompson got the Raiders on the board in the 18th minute when Steven Arthur set him up for a quick strike to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Kilian Oelrich would then give the Red & White the advantage, scoring not only the game winning goal but the first of his MSOE career, with about nine minutes left before the intermission with the helper going to Tanner Cellio.
  • Lu Shi Peng Xiong added some insurance via a Danny Aranda assist halfway through the second half as the Raiders dominated the last 45 minutes in a 3-1 win in front of a packed house at Viets Field.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • The Raiders and Pioneers raised over $2,900 for the Alzheimer's Association on Thursday night in what they hope will be an annual battle with alternating home sites.
  • Keeper Asher Harris picked up the first win of his Raiders career in the start tonight.
  • The Raiders are 7-2-1 in ten total games against UW-Platteville and stayed perfect at 4-0 at home against the Pioneers with the win this evening.
