Raiders Lead Vanishes Late In Loss

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – MSOE women's basketball has had several close contests as of late but haven't been able to come away with a victory. The Raiders had their chance to break through on Saturday afternoon against Benedictine but a late Eagles run dashed the Red & White's hopes inside the Kern Center.

FINAL SCORE
Benedictine – 59
MSOE RAIDERS – 53

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • MSOE (3-12, 2-6 NACC) opened up a high energy game against Benedictine (4-10, 4-4 NACC) with 16 first quarter points on 7-of-17 shooting. The Eagles were also quick to put up crooked numbers but their 14 gave the Raiders the slim two point advantage.
  • The Red & White carried a two tally lead into halftime after each squad scored nine in the second but MSOE put more distance between themselves and BU with their best offensive quarter of the game. They went 50 percent from the field and scored 16 points to enter the final stanza with a five tally lead.
  • Unfortunately, the Eagles offense woke up and went into high gear. Benedictine scored a game high 23 points in the fourth and while the Raiders tried to keep pace, they lost their lead for good with just 52 seconds left. BU nailed several trips to the line to ice the game, dealing the Raiders a six point defeat.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • The Raiders continued their string of close games against the Eagles but have come up empty handed in their last six matchups against Benedictine.
  • Four of the eight Red & White players to see the floor this afternoon scored at least eight points. They were led by Grace Ellington with 13 and Mahima Chokshi with 11.
  • Missed free throws were quite possibly the difference in the contest. The Raiders had 13 attempts from the charity stripe but only converted on four of them.
