Raiders Pull Off Nailbiter Against Aurora

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Looking to break their skid, the Raiders returned to the Kern Center to hopefully find their spark. In a narrow-fought game that forced an extra five minutes to be played, MSOE would be clutch in the final seconds to get back on the right track against Aurora.

FINAL SCORE
Aurora - 69
MSOE RAIDERS – 73

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Donovan Carter got the game started with a jumper to help the Red & White get hot early as they jumped out to an 8-2 lead just four minutes in. Aurora (12-7, 7-5 NACC) would answer quickly as it would look to be a narrow margin for most of the first half. A Carson Cordelli lay-up followed by free throws from Mason Dopirak would help give the Raiders (9-9, 5-6 NACC) a five-point lead as they went into the half leading 27-22.
  • The Spartans would quickly close that margin to begin the second half and take the lead five minutes in. Back and forth the sides would go until Carter knocked down back-to-back three pointers to take a 55-50 lead with 2:28 to play. The Raiders would hold that lead with 24 seconds to go before the final horn, but the Spartans showed fight to the end and hit two free throws with zeros on the clock to force overtime.
  • Each possession looked to match each other's throughout the beginning of overtime as neither team wanted to see the other gain any ground not. Dopirak would draw a foul with just 24 seconds to play to knock down two free throws to take a two-point lead. The Spartans then missed a lay-up on their end forcing them to foul, leaving Chase Cummings to hit free-throws to seal the game for the Raiders.
