HOW IT HAPPENED

  • vs. Central College
    • MSOE struggled against Central, failing to score any team points, but did see several close outcomes.
    • Michael Smith came the closest to victory in the meet for the Raiders, dropping his 157-weight class match in an overtime period.
    • The Raiders almost had points on the board to close the meet, as Jake Schmitt moved up to the 285-weight class and narrowly lost via decision, 4-1.

  • vs. Nebraska Wesleyan
    • The Raiders had a chip on their shoulder after the first meet and came out of the gates hot. MSOE won the first three matches, with Jesse Johnson and Max Sanderfoot both scoring victories via fall, and the Raiders took a 16-0 lead.
    • After the Prairie Wolves won three of the next five, it was up to the Raiders to halt their momentum.  Caleb Brick came up huge for the Raiders, scoring a victory via fall at the 1:37 mark.  This would put the Raiders up 27-16, slamming the door shut on the Prairie Wolves.
    • Jake Schmitt would secure the final victory of the meet for MSOE, winning via fall in dominant fashion. (0:40) The final six points would put a bow on the Raiders final contest of the year, and give the Raiders a 33-20 win.

  • vs. Schreiner University
    • The Raiders jumped out to a 9-0 lead after another Johnson victory, this time via decision, and a quick fall victory for Alex Morales (1:48).  After a Mountaineer win, Connor Nagela and Michael Smith would pull out back-to-back victories again for the Raiders, increasing their lead at 18-4.
    • Schreiner would win the next 3 matches, bringing the score to 18-15 in favor of the Raiders.  Schmitt would go on to work his way to another win, an 11-2 major decision, effectively sealing the deal on a Raider win.  The final score would be 22-19 after Schreiner won the 285 weight class match up.
