Softball Gets Back On Track With Home Sweep

MILWAUKEE – After two tough losses over the weekend to Concordia Wisconsin, MSOE softball needed to get back on track quickly when they welcomed Benedictine to Milwaukee. The Raiders staged a comeback in game one before blanking the Eagles in the back half of the doubleheader for a sweep at MSOE Raiders Field.

RESULTS
Benedictine – 2
MSOE RAIDERS – 3

Benedictine – 0
MSOE RAIDERS – 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • MSOE (13-7, 6-2 NACC) was faced with adversity right from the get-go as Benedictine (14-8, 4-4 NACC) homed to left center field to go up 1-0 in the first inning.
    • The Eagles added another run in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly before the Raiders went to work on the comeback. The Red & White tied things in the bottom half of the same inning starting with a Grace Salaja single up the middle that drove in Alyssa Jacobson. Faith Matta then reached on a fielder's choice with Salaja scoring after beating the throw home to tie it 2-2.
    • Both sides were quiet until the bottom of the seventh. Back-to-back singles from Celine Pacheco and Grace Brown and a sacrifice from Jacobson set the table with runners at second and third for Salaja. The Raiders centerfielder proceeded to single to left to score the winning run in a 3-2 MSOE victory.
    • Sarah Grossman got the start, throwing 4.2 strong innings and allowed just four hits before Kennedy Lehn came in to get the win in relief.
  • Game Two
    • Game two for the Raiders was a little more straightforward. RBI base hits from Jacobson, Pacheco, and Salaja put them up 3-0 by the time the fourth inning ended, and Lehn took care of the rest with a complete game two hitter.
    • Salaja and Jenna Trewyn added some insurance in the fifth inning with run scoring singles to put the Red & White up by five.
    • MSOE put together 11 hits throughout the contest, three of which were doubles in a 5-0 blanking of Benedictine to complete the sweep.
RAIDER REMARKS
  • The Raiders have now won four out of their last five games against Benedictine.
  • MSOE swiped five stolen bases between the two contests and are now 28-for-32 as a team on the season.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES WHO'S ON DECK
