MSOE men's tennis had a chance to etch their names in the record books heading into the weekend as they were within striking distance of the NACC regular season championship when they took on Concordia Wisconsin and Wisconsin Lutheran. The Raiders took care of business and ended the season in a three way tie for first, securing their first NACC title since 2017.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 7
Concordia Wisconsin – 2
Wisconsin Lutheran – 2
MSOE RAIDERS – 7
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (11-9, 6-1 NACC) took both matches over the weekend with duplicate 7-2 scores and started off each contest by sweeping doubles play against both Concordia Wisconsin (6-13, 3-4 NACC) and Wisconsin Lutheran (9-12, 4-3 NACC).
- The Falcons were able to grab two points against the Raiders in singles play on Saturday but Joe Chong (6-2, 6-2) and Jachym Smid (6-1, 6-1) each had decisive victories to help the Red & White secure the win.
- The Warriors did the same thing the next day on Sunday, though both of WLC wins had to come in a third set tiebreak out of the first and third singles spots. Smid kept up his solid play in the sixth spot to win 6-1, 6-0 and Emilio Ulloa turned in a dominate 6-3, 6-0 win to help the Raiders clinch a title that they haven't held in six years.
RAIDER REMARKS
- The Raiders ended the season in a three way tie for the top spot in the NACC along with St. Norbert and Illinois Tech. However, due to tiebreakers, the Red & White had to settle for the third seed in the NACC tournament. The top spot went to IITÂ and SNC rounded things out with the second seed.
