MILWAUKEE – MSOE softball headed into play on Friday with a share of second place in the NACC standings. It just so happened that the team they shared it with was their opponent Dominican. Thankfully, there is no longer a tie. The Raiders used their powerful bats and stellar pitching to shut out the Stars in both ends of the doubleheader at MSOE Raiders Field to run their win streak to six games.
RESULTS
Dominican – 0
MSOE RAIDERS – 4
Dominican – 0
MSOE RAIDERS – 8
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game One
- The first two and a half innings of game one flew by as there was little offense and zero scoring. Thankfully, MSOE (23-9, 15-3 NACC) ended the stalemate in the bottom of the third when Jenna Trewyn singled to left to score Grace Salaja.
- With one run in, the rest of the damage that the Raiders put together was constrained to the fifth stanza. Jocelyn Clodi led things off with a double to center and was moved over to third two batters later. Faith Matta then reached via an error that drove in Clodi to make it 2-0.
- The error extended inning continued as Trewyn and Morgan Long drew back to back walks to load the bases before Lauren Stefanczyk shot one down the line for a two RBI double, putting the Red & White ahead 4-0.
- Dominican (24-8, 13-5 NACC) had no answer for starter Kennedy Lehn who threw another complete game shutout while striking out seven for her 14th win of the year.
- Game Two
- Trewyn began the scoring in the second game the same way she did in the first by singling to drive in Salaja before Stefanczyk knocked the Raiders catcher in for an RBI of her own to make it 2-0 MSOE after one.
- The Red & White wouldn't find the scoresheet again until the bottom of the fifth, but they found it in a big way. Trewyn served as the catalyst for the third time when an error by the Stars second baseman allowed her to reach base and pushed Matta across home plate.
- MSOE would go on to load the bases, setting the table for Grace Brown. The senior proceeded to blast a ball over the left centerfield fence for a grand slam to make it 7-0. Salaja would double two batters later to plate Clodi and end Dominican's afternoon by enacting the mercy rule.
- Sarah Grossman had full command of the circle on the other side of the ball, allowing just one hit. She picked up her eighth win once all was said and done while Lehn got her second save of the season in a 8-0 Raiders victory.
RAIDER REMARKS
- The Raiders have won six out of the last seven meetings against Dominican. They also haven't allowed the Stars to score a run in the last 22 consecutive innings against them.
