OCCOQUAN, Va. – MSOE men's and women's rowing put everything they learned this season to the test when both teams competed at the MARC Championships this past weekend. Both Varsity 8+ teams showed the ability to make waves with each coming in with a top three finish.
The Raiders competed in the Women's Varsity 8+ event fielded by
Nicole Harris (coxswain),
Monique Landry,
Sabrina Lutz, Grace BeBeau,
Tiffany Dabrowski,
Polina Vyucheiskaia,
Katerina Flierl,
Annika West, and
Veronica Skinner. The ladies raced in the first heat against Catholic, St. Mary's, Bryn Mawr and Cabrini coming out with a fourth place finish and a seeding in the petite final. The Raiders would refocus and rowed away with a win in that final that was seven seconds faster than Marietta and 28 seconds quicker than Cabrini.
The Raider Varsity 8+ men also had to deal with less than stellar conditions, as rain made things somewhat difficult. MSOE got off to a strong start and put good pressure on St. Mary's to fight for third place but had to settle for fourth after passing Stockton. Just like the women, the Red & White also advanced to the petite final where a strong start allowed them to secure a third place finish.
The Raiders will have another chance to come away with trophies when they head to the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta which is scheduled for May 12-13
th in Pennsauken, N.J.
