WHITEWATER, Wis. – Coming off a two goal win during their home opener on Tuesday, MSOE women's soccer traveled to take on UW-Whitewater for their second of four games in less than a week. The Raiders tried their best to ground the Warhawks and avenged a first half goal but couldn't find the go-ahead tally in a 1-1 tie on Friday evening.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 1
UW-Whitewater – 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (2-0-2) has gotten accustomed to scoring first in their opening three games of the 2023 season, so they were put in unchartered territory when UW-Whitewater (0-3-1) netted the contest's opening goal in the 22nd minute.
- The Raiders would play the rest of the first half down by one but found a way to even the score when Olivia Carroll set up Leena Afifi for a strike from 15 yards out to tie the game at 1-1 in the 52nd minute.
- The Red & White fired 10 more shots towards the Warhawks net in the final 45 minutes of play, but that lone goal would be all the offense could get. MSOE's defense stepped up to the task though and kept UWW right where they were at as well in the Raiders second tie of the young season.
RAIDER REMARKS
- The Raiders started off the series against UW-Whitewater by going 1-6 in their first seven matches. The tables have started to turn however as MSOE is 2-0-1 in their last three against the Warhawks.
