Raiders Complete Comeback Against Eagles

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The MSOE women's basketball team secured their fourteenth win of the season, double their wins from last year, as they came back from being down as much as eight points in the third quarter to beat the Eagles of Benedictine 62-59.

RESULT

MSOE RAIDERS – 62

Benedictine - 59

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (14-6, 8-3 NACC) opened the game against Benedictine (7-13, 7-4 NACC) with a sense of urgency, going on a 15-4 run in the opening five minutes of the game, capped off by a Nicole Levine three.  The Raiders offense would stay consistent behind the steady hands of Mahima Chokshi who finished the night with 11 points on 50% shooting.  The Raiders ended the first quarter ahead of the Eagles, 23-17.
  • After allowing three straight threes to open the second quarter, the Raiders found themselves trailing for the first time.  The Eagles defense frustrated the Raiders, who were unable to get in a rhythm on offense despite multiple trips to the free throw line.  The Raiders found themselves trailing 36-31 at the half.
  • Halena Hill gave the Raiders their groove back coming out of the break, scoring seven straight points to take the lead back for the Raiders.  After the Eagles took the lead back, Levine hit a massive three to pop the Kern Center crowd with a 41-40 Raider lead.
  • The Eagles took a three-point lead into the fourth quarter, with the Raiders struggling from deep, shooting only 27% from three.  The Eagles hit their last shot of the game at the 3:55 mark of the fourth quarter, and the Raiders never looked back.  Chokshi went to the charity stripe down two points, 59-57, but only converted one attempt.  A timely steal and transisition layup from Levine allowed the Raiders to take a 60-59 lead with just over a minute remaining.  After another steal from Lavine, Chokshi hit a jumper to give the Raiders just a little breathing room, as they hung in on the last defensive possession to deliver a 62-59 win.
