Women's Volleyball Celebrates Senior Day Over Eagles

MILWAUKEE – Celebrating its two seniors Ava Larson and Samantha Johnson, the MSOE women's volleyball team battled back after a rough first set for a chance to upset Benedictine University Saturday despite losing a key contributor just minutes before first serve to fall just short in four sets.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 1

Benedictine - 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Benedictine (12-11, 8-2 NACC) wasted no time setting the tone over MSOE (11-16, 3-7 NACC), rattling off the first five points before taking a 9-1 lead. The Eagles continued to grow its lead sizably up to 13 before taking the first set 25-10. The Raiders flipped things around quickly when a run that saw back-to-back kills from Annabella Visak gave them a 6-4 lead early on in set two. A 5-0 run just a few points later with an ace from Madalynn Skwarek put them ahead 12-6. The closest the Eagles could get to the Raiders was late when they brough their deficit to 23-20, but a kill from Ana Knutson before Morgan Borchardt capped it with an ace tied up the match 25-20.
  • Blends of the first two sets were on display to start the third set as things were tied up at eight early after two blocks from Larson and a block from her and Hannah Gilbert. A quick three points after that from the Raiders put them ahead 11-8 before the Eagles took back the lead 14-13. The Raiders tied things back up at 17 with kills from Larson and Ashley Murphy, but the Eagles stormed away from there on an 8-1 one to take the third set 25-18. The Eagles steadily grew their lead in the fourth set early on before a 4-0 run gave them a 18-11 advantage. From there, they continued to run away to finish off the Raiders 25-14.
