Women's Basketball Powers Past Foresters

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The MSOE women's basketball team secured their first win of the 2024-25 campaign on Tuesday night, with the Raiders besting the Foresters of Lake Forest College 55-50. Lana Kerley and Mahima Chokshi led the way for the Red and White, combing for 32 of the team's 55 points.

RESULT

MSOE RAIDERS – 55

Lake Forest College - 50

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Despite jumping ahead to an early 5-0 lead for the Raiders (1-1, 0-0 NACC) the first quarter went to the Foresters (0-2, 0-0 Midwest Conference) who held the Red and White to just 22.73% shooting in the first frame.  LFC flipped the script on the Raiders, who went in the second quarter trailing 16-11.  MSOE nearly regained the lead at the midway point of the frame after a jumper from Aleah Butterbrodt, but back-to-back threes from the Foresters gave Lake Forest the 26-24 advantage at the halftime break.
  • The Red and White would begin to get in rhythm coming of the half, as Mahima Chokshi kicked off the second half scoring for MSOE with three points the old-fashioned way, and after free throws from both Dani Mendez and Lana Kerley, the Raiders knotted the game up at 29-29.  Kerley would go on to score the last seven points for the Raiders in the third quarter, giving MSOE a one-point lead with less than a minute to go in the frame, but a three from LFC would put the Raiders behind two points heading into the fourth.
  • After trading the lead to open the final frame, a two-point jumper from Nicole Levine would spell the end for the Foresters, as the Red and White never relinquished the lead.  Another three from Chokshi, who finished with six steals, would push the Raider lead to four as the Foresters began to go ice cold from long range, with MSOE defense allowing only three made shots in the final ten minutes of play.  Kerley would finish with double-double, putting up 17 points and hauling in 12 rebounds as the Raiders inch closer to conference play.
