Men's Basketball Suffers First Loss to RV Pointers

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The MSOE men's basketball traveled up to take on receiving votes University of Wisconsin-Stevens Points Wednesday evening. After battling close in the first half not allowing them to take complete control, the efficiency from the Pointers was too much to chase down as the Raiders took their first loss of the season.

FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 47

RV Wisconsin-Stevens Point - 72

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Wisconsin-Stevens Point (2-0, 0-0 WIAC) came out soundly on an 8-0 before steal from Chase Cummings helped stop their momentum as he passed it ahead for Donovan Carter for MSOE's (1-1, 0-0 NACC) first points. The Pointers grew their lead back up to eight with 11:02 remaining in the first half but was quickly cut to within two after back-to-back three pointers from Cummings and Carter. The shooting Mason Dopirak and Jonathan Burroughs late in the half wouldn't the Pointers runaway as the Raiders held a three-point deficit going into the break.
  • The Pointers came out of the gates on fire, improving their shooting to 59 percent to storm away from the Raiders quickly. By the 16:39 mark, the Pointers lead hit double-digits for the first time before growing as large as 21 by 13:36 remaining. A three-pointer from CJ Valente followed by a layup from Cummings cut it down to 16, but that was closest the Raiders could get to the Pointers from there on out.
