MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's basketball team got back in the win column on Wednesday night as the Raiders bested the Regents of Rockford University in their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 66
Rockford Regents - 56
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After being deadlocked in the early minutes, the Raiders (3-3, 1-0 NACC) began to separate themselves from the Regents (1-4, 0-1 NACC) as the first quarter hit the midway point, going on an 8-0 run capped off by fast break layup from Halena Hill. Despite the early lead, the Regents would climb back into the contest by the end of the first. The Raiders would batten the hatches on the defensive end in the second frame, holding the Regents to zero bench points in the second quarter, and only two points in the paint as the Red and White would hold a seven-point lead heading into the halftime break.
- The second half was all Red and White, as MSOE scored seven unanswered points to start the third quarter with Lana Kerley and Dani Mendez battering the Regents in the paint and in transition. The Raiders lead would build to as much as 17 points in the quarter with Mahima Chokshi and Aleah Butterbrodt playing at a different level than Rockford, as the two combined for 25 points and 10 rebounds. Mendez and Chokshi would lead MSOE in scoring as the Raiders put on the cruise control, holding off a late heat check from the Regents as they delivered a 66-56 win to the Kern Center faithful.
