MILWAUKEE – Despite a lackluster start, the MSOE men's volleyball put pressure on #5 California Lutheran University Sunday afternoon but couldn't complete the comeback in a four-set match.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 1
#5 California Lutheran - 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither side made a clear advantage early until California Lutheran (15-4, 0-0 DIII Independent) went on a mini run to take a 19-14 lead. Kills from Carter Shavitz in the middle of a 5-0 run put MSOE (4-5, 0-0 NACC) back in it but the Kingsmen took advantage of Raider mistake to take the first set 25-21. The Raiders couldn't place any attacks where the Kingsmen weren't in set two to fall 25-15 to face a sweep.
- Despite the tough battle to begin set three, the Raiders midway through picked up a 4-0 run after a kill from Callan Harris and capped by back-to-back kills from Ian Glashagel. The Kingsmen eventually tied things up and started trading serves with the Raiders up to the 18-point mark. The Raiders picked up kills that brough the Kern Center to life as a block from Harris at set point forced a fourth set, winning the third 26-24.
- The Kingsmen got out of their fun to have the slight edge to begin the fourth set. Despite keeping the Raiders close, they eventually took a five-point advantage but was quickly shortened after a kill from Glashagel and an ace from Harris to bring the score 16-14. The Raiders continued to put pressure on the Kingsmen but could never get over the hump and eventually fell 25-21.
