Softball Splits with the Regents

LOVES PARK, Ill. – MSOE softball made the trip down to Illinois for a doubleheader against Rockford University as the Raiders split with the Regents.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 2
Rockford Regents – 1

MSOE RAIDERS – 3
Rockford Regents – 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • The Raiders (13-17, 8-6 NACC) put the heat on the Regents (10-14, 3-9 NACC) in the first inning, as Jenna O'Donnell walked before stealing second.  Jayda Nelson would single to advance O'Donnell, but the Raiders failed to bring anyone across in the first.
    • Nelson and O'Donnell would circle back around in the third, as each delivered back-to-back sacrifice hits to give the Raiders the 2-0 lead as Alyssa Jacobson and Faith Matta came around to score.
    • Katie Pollock picked up her 11th win of the season, giving up one run while striking out six and walking one, in a complete game effort.
  • Game Two
    • Nelson continued her hot streak with an RBI double in the top of the first, as Nelson gave MSOE a 1-0 lead as she finished the doubleheader 4-for-8 with 2 RBI.
    • The Regents would answer in the bottom of the inning, bring two runs across on two hits and an error by the Raiders.  MSOE would respond immediately, as Matta knocked in the equalizing run on a single through the left side of the infield.
    • Rockford would continue to chip away at the Raiders, putting runs on the scoreboard in the third, fourth and fifth innings.  MSOE would make a comeback attempt in the sixth as Jocelyn Clodi singled down the left field line to bring the pinch-running Noel Dahl home.  The Raiders rally would end abruptly off of back-to-back fly outs as MSOE failed to score in the seventh and fell 5-3 in Game 2.
