Raiders Bats Get Hot; Sweep Green Knights

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – MSOE softball hosted the Green Knights of St. Norbert College on Sunday, as the Raiders captured victory in both games to sweep the Green Knights.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • The Raiders (15-17, 10-6 NACC) briefly trailed the Green Knights (8-26, 4-14 NACC) after going down 2-0 in the top of the fourth, but MSOE would respond in the bottom of the inning, delivering an incredible two-out rally.  The Raiders registered four straight hits, capped off by a bases-clearing triple from Alyssa Jacobson to bring home three runs.  Jacobson would score on a wild pitch following her clutch hit, as the Raiders ended the fourth inning ahead 5-2.
    • After giving up two runs, Katie Pollock allowed just three hits and no runs down the stretch, striking out a whopping 14 batters as the Raiders took Game 1 6-2.  The Raiders finished the game with eleven hits and four runners left on base as they remained undefeated against SNC. 
  • Game Two
    • Despite bringing across a run in the first, MSOE fell behind the Green Knights in the second as SNC rocked a solo homerun before a short rally to take a 2-1 lead.
    • The Raiders would finally answer in the bottom of the third, as Carlee Emery stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and delivered a 3 RBI double off the outfield fence to give MSOE the 4-2 lead.
    • The Raiders would run up the score on the Green Knights, adding five runs in the fourth on four hits and two St. Norbert errors.  Faith Matta, Jenna Trewyn and Jacobson all batted in runs as the Raiders held on for the 9-2 lead.  Whitney Ruffcorn recorded her first career win in a complete game effort as the Raiders secured conference win #10.

The Raiders play next on Saturday, April 27th when the Spartans of Aurora University make the trip to Raiders Field.  The games begin at 12:00PM and 2:00PM.
