MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's volleyball team held both their home and conference opener Tuesday night as they played host to Illinois Institute of Technology. After a rough start, the Raiders found some momentum late but couldn't stop the Scarlet Hawks in a sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wanting to come out on fire to open the home season, it was the away squad that took the momentum instantly as Illinois Tech (7-5, 1-0 NACC) stunned out to a 11-3 lead quick. Errors from the Scarlet Hawks helped chip away the MSOE (4-9, 0-1 NACC) deficit just slightly, but the Scarlet Hawks held too much momentum as they cruise to a 25-14 set one win.
- The Scarlet Hawks came out with shades of the first set for a 10-5 advantage but never seemed to run away. A string of kills from Emma Schattschneider kept things close until things started clicking for the Raiders after a pair of kills from Ana Knutson. Late in the set though, the Scarlet Hawks caught fire to pull away for the 25-19 set win.
- The Raiders took the slight momentum they created in the second set and carried it into the third set, hoping to turn things around. After going down 10-5, the Red & White went on a 7-1 run, capped by back-to-back aces from Schattschneider, to take their first lead since the opening point. After trading points back and forth, the Raiders comeback began to fall through the cracks as the Scarlet Hawks finished on a 6-0 run to take the set 25-17.
