Raiders Demolish the Scarlet Hawks in Chicago

CHICAGO – The MSOE Men's Soccer team went toe-to-toe against the Scarlet Hawks of Illinois Tech on Saturday afternoon, as the Red and White made it look easy with five different Raiders finding the back of the net against the #7 ranked team in the region.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 5

Illinois Tech - 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half was a test of patience for MSOE (3-2-4, 2-1-0 NACC) as the Red-and-White got off to a quick start, registering four shots in the first ten minutes of play. Zach Thompson would give the Raiders the early advantage over Illinois Tech (5-2-2, 1-2-0 NACC) as he followed up a shot off the foot of Austin Killen, with a frantic-left-footed-finish to beat the Scalet Hawks keeper.  The Raiders would continue to put pressure on Illinois Tech, as MSOE outshot the Scarlet Hawks 12-to-2 in the first 45 minutes of play.  The Raiders would be unable to find the back of the net despite the production, as Illinois Tech tied things up at 1-1 at the 32:23 mark of the first half.
  • Coming out of the break, the Raiders patience finally paid off as the goals were scored fast and furious. Alex Lamb put the Raiders back in the driver's seat off a corner assist from Nico Picha, who would bury an unassisted goal of his own just over two minutes later to put MSOE up 3-1.  Killen would up his point total with 25 minutes left to play, converting on a penalty kick opportunity as the junior went bottom left to put the Raiders in cruise control against the #7 team in Region VIII.  The Raiders would put one more on the board off the foot of the red-hot Ditar Useni and after slew of ties to begin the season, the Raiders secured a 5-1 victory and are now winners in three of their last four games following the offensive explosion.
