MSOE RAIDERS – 2
Dubuque Spartans – 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders (2-12-2, 1-6-2 NCHA) trailed the Spartans (5-8-1, 1-6-1 NCHA) early after Dubuque got on the board at the 3:55 mark of the first period. The Raiders would go on the powerplay less than a minute later with a chance to even the score but saw shots from Lilo Emerson and Averi Zhong stopped by the Spartans. The Red and White would go on the penalty kill with five minutes remaining in the first, stopping all five Spartan shots including a critical block from Arial Lapsa as the period came to a close with MSOE behind 1-0.
- The Raiders would nearly tie the game up in the opening moments of the second period, but saw both the power play and a penalty shot from MaryFrancis Williams turned away by the Spartans goalie. The Raiders would dominate control of the puck in the second, registering 20 shots in period as they went on the powerplay three times but were unable to even the score as the second intermission began.
- Dubuque would take a 2-0 lead at the 5:26 mark of the third period on a breakaway goal, but the Raiders would answer back, as Helen Bechthold and Stacey Cloute assisted Amy MacDonald to get MSOE on the scoreboard. Dubuque would register another goal to go up 3-1, but the Red and White would strike back 33 seconds later, as Anika Einbeck found the back of the net on a great feed from Gray Mandia. The Raiders would have good looks to knot the game up as the recorded six shots in the closing minutes of the game, but were unable to avenge their previous losses to the Spartans.
