MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's hockey team got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon, as the Raiders scored four unanswered goals to best the University of Dubuque and pick up their second conference win of the season.
FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 4
Dubuque Spartans – 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders (3-12-2, 1-6-2 NCHA) found themselves behind the Spartans (5-9-1, 1-7-1 NCHA) after Dubuque scored a goal just 43 seconds into the contest, but MSOE would go on the powerplay with just under five minutes remaining in the first period with a chance to knot the game up. Hannah Baumann and Lilo Emerson would play tic-tac-toe, finding MaryFrancis Williams for the game tying goal not even 30 seconds into the powerplay.
- The Raiders would kill off two Dubuque penalties to start the second period, holding the Spartans to just five shots on four minutes with the advantage. Shortly after killing the second penalty, Williams would find the back of the net once more, this time assisted by Arial Lapsa as the Raiders took the 2-1 lead into the final intermission. Goalie Jenna Kent stood tall in the last minutes of the second frame, recording seven saves in the final three minutes.
- Dubuque looked eager to get back into the game as they went to the powerplay once more, but the Red and White stood ten toes, as Kent continued to impress in net. MSOE would go on the powerplay twice in the third period but came up empty both times. It wouldn't matter for the Raiders, as the Spartans pulled their goalie for the extra attacker, but Darby Boughan would intercept a pass and launch it down the length of the ice to all but seal the win for the Raiders with just over a minute left to play. A fourth goal for the Raiders from Emerson would be the icing on the cake as the Red and White won 4-1, ending their drought.
