DUBUQUE, Iowa – After netting both of their goals yesterday on power-play opportunities, the MSOE men's hockey team ran-back that same game plan netting three more today as well as a short-handed goal to complete the comeback against University of Dubuque.
FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 4
Dubuque - 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- As much as the power play worked well for MSOE (8-7-2, 3-6-1 NCHA), it was Dubuque (0-14-3, 0-8-2 NCHA) who put it on a masterclass first as they netted two of them in the first period for a quick 2-0 lead. After being completely outshot in the early stages, the Raiders picked up steam after the goals scored to only be outshot 11-10 but couldn't cut into the deficit at the first break.
- The first powerplay opportunity in the second period was when the Red & White started to make a turn. Midway through the period, Carson Jones was able to veer through middle and slapped one to the right to get the Raiders on the scoreboard. Minutes later, another opportunity from the Raiders came and they knotted things up at two when Cole Beilke stayed left and sent things to the top right corner.
- Just a few minutes into the third period, the Raiders went back on the powerplay the success continued. As the puck was passed around Adam Smith set up Jones for a one-timer on the right side for the opportunity to send it to the opposite corner as the Raiders went ahead 3-2. Midway through the period, the Spartans had a chance on a powerplay of their own to even things with hopes of another overtime period on back-to-back days. Ethan Mann had didn't plans as he stole the puck from the Spartans and set up a two-on-one opportunity with him and Jacob Bosse that ended with him sending it to the back of the net to extend it 4-2. The Spartans created life for themselves late with an even goal under five minutes to play, but the Raider defense continued to hold to seal it in regulation.
