Women's Soccer Falls to Illinois Tech in NACC Championship Rematch

CHICAGO, Ill. – The MSOE women's soccer team clashed with the Scarlet Hawks of Illinois Tech on Saturday afternoon, in a rematch of last year's NACC Championship.  The Raiders were unable to avenge the postseason loss, as a late goal from the Scarlet Hawks gave Illinois Tech a 1-0 win in a heart breaker for the Red and White.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (10-5-2, 8-1-1 NACC) squared off against Illinois Tech (14-1-1, 10-0-0 NAAC) with the Scarlet Hawks controlling the ball early, with one shot wide of the net and one stopped by Page SanchezElizabeth Kuhn would see a shot of her own go wide right in the Raiders first offensive chance of the afternoon.  The Red and White would hold off another sustained Scarlet Hawk attack, with Sanchez picking up a couple more saves as the Raider defense stood tall once more.  Kuhn would get one more look just before the teams went to the break, but the Illinois Tech goaltender made the key save to keep the game scoreless after 45 minutes.
  • The physicality of the contest began to ramp up coming out of the break with neither team able to establish the attack, as both clubs traded fouls back-and-forth. With just over ten minutes left to play, a yellow card was assessed to the Scarlet Hawks, finally giving MSOE the chance to break through, but the Illinois Tech keeper stopped another shot from Kuhn as the scoreboard remained 0-0.  With less than five minutes left to play, the Scarlet Hawks would take advantage of chaos in the box, sneaking a goal in just inside the post, as Illinois Tech escaped in a heartbreaking 1-0 loss for the Raiders. The Raiders have secured a playoff spot, and will look to lock in their playoff seed with two games left on the regular season schedule.
