HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kerley and MSOE (10-9, 6-4 NACC) worked quickly, knocking in a layup three seconds after the opening tip before two minutes later Illinois Tech (8-11, 4-6 NACC) knocked in their first basket of the game to lead 3-2. That sparked a run that led the Scarlet Hawks to led as large as seven before Kerley knocked in a three and Shelby Glodowski hit two free throws as they cut the deficit to one, 19-18, at the end of the first. On the first possession of the second quarter, the Raiders retook the lead after Halena Hill drove into the paint as the lead seesawed back and forth. After Kerley fed Ella Mensen to take a four-point lead, the Scarlet Hawks closed on a 6-0 run to lead by three at the break, 31-28.
  • Coming out of the break, the Raiders retook the lead after Dani Mendez connected on a jumper and then on the next possession led by four after she knocked in two free throws. After Glodowski connected from long-range that gave the Raiders their largest lead of the day of six, they only led by one at the end of the third 47-46. The Scarlet Hawks looked to put things away starting the fourth as they took a four-point lead but couldn't when midway through Mahima Chokshi helped retake the lead when she nailed a three with 5:10 remaining. After Kerley nailed hit her fourth three of the game to take a 61-55 lead, it became all Scarlet Hawks as they closed on a 12-2 run to steal it.
