HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (4-18-2, 3-12-2 NCHA) fell behind Lake Forest (11-10-3, 7-7-3 NCHA) early after an even-strength goal from the Foresters just four minutes into the contest. Lake Forest would register back-to-back goals just 37 seconds apart at the midway point of the period, going up 3-0 on the Raiders. MSOE would strike with 34 seconds left in the first period as MaryFrancis Williams scored unassisted to give the Raiders a spark heading into the first intermission.
- In a scoreless second period, goalie Laura Melizza would batten the hatches after a rocky first period, shutting down the Lake Forest offense with help from the top defensive pairing of Amy MacDonald and Amelia Jutz. The MSOE penalty kill would shine in the second as they shut down two key Lake Forest powerplays as they went to the final intermission.
- The Raiders would nearly add another goal on a shot from Gray Mandia just minutes into the third, and a Lake Forest interference penalty would lead to as MSOE powerplay at the 3:55 mark of the final period. Sara Kopf would find the back of net a minute into the MSOE powerplay, with the Raiders on the cusp of completing the comeback. The Raiders would see another powerplay opportunity less than a minute later, but the Foresters goalie turned away shots from both Lilo Emerson and Lexi Jackson. The Raiders got one last crack on the powerplay with just under six minutes to play, but Lake Forest would hang on, and after an empty-net goal, MSOE's comeback would end by a score of 4-2.
