Carter's Perfect Night from the Field Sends No. 3 Raiders to NACC Semi-Final

MILWAUKEE – The No. 3 seed MSOE men's basketball saw one of their best shooting nights, including graduate student Donovan Carter shooting perfect from the field, as he and Mason Dopirak scored 23-points each to take down No. 6 seed Marian University in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Quarterfinal Wednesday night. The win marks the first NACC Tournament game win since February 27th, 2020, when they upset No. 1 seed Benedictine University on the road.

FINAL SCORE
No. 3 MSOE RAIDERS – 91

No. 6 Marian - 74

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Marian (16-10, 9-9 NACC) dropped in the first four points before MSOE (18-8, 13-5 NACC) found themselves on the scoreboard when CJ Valente drove into the lane for a layup. Carter, who was a perfect seven of seven in the first half, dropped in a layup to give the Raiders their first lead of the game 8-6, which extended up to six after Dopirak nailed a jumper with 14:41 remaining. A pair of free-throws by Joey Jendusa made the lead double-digits 29-19 with under ten minutes, but the Sabres cut it to four with 4:41 remaining. Back-to-back threes from Carter and Dopirak shot it back up to a ten-point game before Jendusa drove in for layup on their final possession of the first half to give the Red & White a 48-36 lead at the break.
  • Valente hit massive shots to begin the second half to give the Raiders their largest lead of 17 just minutes in before the Sabres brought it to single digits with 11:13 remaining. After the Sabres made it a seven-point game twice, Dopirak and Isaac Wit each hit massive threes to make it 74-59 with 8:04 remaining. Carson Cordelli was left alone from three-point range twice and nailed each of those to make it an 18-point game with 4:37 remaining and Dopirak put the game completely on ice with his fourth three-pointer, advancing the Raiders to Friday.
