MILWAUKEE – The No. 6 seed MSOE women's basketball team squared off took on No. 2 seed Wisconsin Lutheran in the semifinals of the NACC Tournament on Thursday night, as the Raiders nearly came away with the upset but fell after a late surge from the Warriors
FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 45
Wisconsin Lutheran College - 54
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (15-12, 10-6 NACC) and WLC (20-7, 15-1 NACC) were scoreless for nearly three minutes to open the game, until a Lana Kerley jumper gave the Raiders the upper hand. A three from Mahima Chokshi, followed up by jumper from Kerley, would help the Raiders secure a 13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Red and White outshot the Warriors 55% to 35%, but MSOE would surrender seven attempts at the free throw line to WLC. Wisconsin Lutheran would convert six of their seven attempts as the Raiders would fall behind 25-24 at the break.
- The Raiders would trail by as much as six points by the midway point of the third quarter, but a three from Kerley followed shortly after by a three from Halena Hill had the game knotted up at 32-32 with 3:29 left in the third.
- Down two possessions to start the fourth quarter, Dani Mendez would power through a Warrior double team to get the Raiders within a possession of the lead. A three from WLC would push their lead to six points, but back-to-back threes from Elly Kohl and Kerley would give MSOE a chance, tied up at 45-45 with 3:19 left in the game. Unfortunately the Raiders momentum would be halted, as they would be unable to find the bottom of the net the rest of the way. After three WLC layups the Warriors would just add free throws as the Raiders reached the conference semifinals for the second time in program history, coming up just short 54-45.
