Raiders Fall to Falcons in Regular Season Finale

MEQUON, Wis. – The MSOE men's lacrosse team closed out the regular season against the Falcons of Concordia University Wisconsin, with a home playoff game on the line for both teams.  The Raiders would fall to the Falcons in a tale of two halves, as CUW stormed back late in the third, costing the Raiders a home playoff game.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS - 12
Concordia Wisconsin - 16

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (10-6, 8-3 NACC) and CUW (10-7, 8-3 NACC) traded goals back-and-forth across the first quarter, as a Dawson Smith goal opened the scoring just over a minute into the game.  After a couple goals from the Falcons, a goal from Tom Farren would knot the game up at 2-2 midway through the first frame.  Graden Jansen would add another faceoff win-goal after the Falcons took a two-goal lead, bringing the score to 4-3 in favor of CUW.  The Falcons would continue to maintain at least a one goal lead through the end of the first frame, until Luke Neal tied the game at 5-5 just 48 seconds into the second quarter.
  • The Raiders would regain the lead at the 10:49 mark of the second quarter as Cole Karst added his twelfth goal of the season on an assist from Smith to give the Raiders a 6-5 lead.  Smith would add his second goal of the game, and fourth straight goal for MSOE, less than two minutes later as the momentum swung back in favor of the Red and White.  The Raiders would hold the Falcons scoreless the rest of the first half, as the Raiders led 10-5 at the half.
  • In the second half, it would take CUW just over a minute to end the Raiders 7-0 run, as the Falcons cut the MSOE lead to 10-6.  The Raiders would respond with a goal from Luke Neal shortly after, but the Falcons would begin to mount a comeback to close the third quarter.  Concordia would end the third frame scoring seven straight goals in the final four and a half minutes to give CUW a 13-11 lead heading to the final fifteen minutes of play.
  • In the fourth quarter, the Falcons would up their lead to 16-11 as the Raiders allowed ten answered goals to CUW.  A goal from Soren Savard cut the MSOE deficit to 16-12 with 20 seconds to go, as the Red and White fell in the regular season finale.  The Falcons outshot the Raiders 47-to-35 as the second-half explosion from CUW was too much for MSOE to overcome.
