Raiders Take Road Sweep at Benedictine

LISLE, Ill.  – The MSOE baseball team secured another sweep in the Chicagoland area this season, posting double-digit runs in both games to defeat Benedictine University on the road Saturday afternoon.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 10
Benedictine - 4

MSOE RAIDERS – 11
Benedictine - 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • After a scoreless first two innings, Benedictine (11-12, 2-6 NACC) struck first with runs in the third and fourth innings to lead 2-0. MSOE (10-10, 6-2 NACC) got on the board when Quinn Zills raced home on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth but was answered in the bottom half with two from the Eagles to make it 4-1.
    • The seventh was when the scoring started for the Raiders as Charlie Claas got it started when he hit a sacrifice fly to right field to get Jack Kalitowski in to score before Joe Stried hit a single up the middle to bring Camden Hoier in to cut it to one. Christian Bosque gave the Red & White the lead later, bring Stried and JJ Jackson around to make it 5-4.
    • The Raiders made it pour on the Eagles in the top of the ninth with Jake Franks adding to the lead with a leadoff home run and Bosque, Elias Lopez (two), and Jordan Skolmar drove in runs to make it 10-4. Jackson went back out on the mound for his second relief inning and struck out the first two before forcing a grounder Stried to seal game one.
  • Game Two
    • The Raiders stayed hot to begin game two with AJ Le bringing in the first run in the top of first with a single through the right side to score Stried before the Eagles matched it in the bottom half. The baserunning of the Raiders and miscues of the Eagles came at a plenty to begin the top of the second as the first three runs came across on the basepaths. The Raiders added two more runs after that to make it 7-1.
    • The Raiders kept adding to the lead in the third when Claas bunted to reach on an error that scored Jackson before Le hit a sacrifice fly to score him to make it 9-1. After a pair of scoreless innings, Claas added two more when he ripped a double into left to score Franks and Kalitowski to make it 11-1, allowing the game to end early with Zach Brzezinski and Eric Williamson keeping the Eagles side of the scoreboard silent the rest of the way.
