WAVERLY, Iowa – The MSOE men's soccer team was able to get back on track in their final string of non-conference games, defeating Wartburg College while forcing a second half shutout.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 2
Wartburg - 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wartburg (1-3-1, 0-0-0 American Rivers) jumped out quickly, scoring in the seventh minute of the game for the early lead. In the 26th minute with MSOE (3-2-1, 0-0-0 NACC) getting a corner kick opportunity, Adrian Manchado rebounded a far out shot from Steven Thomas that was block and was able to ricochet his own shot off a Knights defender to knot up the game at one. With just over four minutes remaining in the first half, the Raiders received a massive blessing as the Knights sailed a ball bad to their goalkeeper, going right over his head into the back of the net to take a 2-1 lead at the break.
- While the Raiders offense was limited, having just three shots that all missed the net, Asher Harris stepped up big time in goal. Harris stopped all three shots he faced in the second half while the backline forced all the Knights shots in the final 21 minutes to be off target. The Knights biggest opportunity to tie the game came with 3:47 remaining with a penalty kick, but it sailed high with the Raiders able to finish the game with ease.
