ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The MSOE women's volleyball team wrapped up their weekend at the Viking Classic on Saturday, falling in a pair of three set matches with Grinnell College and host Augustana College.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 0
Grinnell – 3

MSOE RAIDERS – 0
Augustana - 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • vs. Grinnell
    • MSOE (1-9, 0-0 NACC) jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, capped by an ace from Katie Moser before Grinnell (4-6, 0-0 Midwest) went on a 5-1 to tie up the set at five. Four more straight points from the Raiders with an ace from Gillian McDaniel shifted the momentum back to the Red & White until the Pioneers trickled back to tie the set at 15. Holding the lead to set point, the Raiders then fired off three straight kills to get set point of their own before trading blows back and forth with the Pioneers getting the edge to win 29-27.
    • The Pioneers created pressure immediately in the second set, forcing Raider miscues to take an 8-2 lead early. Back-to-back kills from Alyssa Rusch and McDaniel brought the set to within two but the Pioneers used a 6-1 later to run away with it 25-20.
    • Natalie Martinez caught fire at the service line early in the third, rattling off three straight to take a 5-3 lead to begin. After the Pioneers found a spark through the middle of the set, an 8-2 run for the Raiders gave them a 20-19 advantage. After making it 22-20, the Pioneers began to completely click offensively, ending on a 5-0 run to win 25-20.
    • McDaniel led the way offensively, knocking in eight kills while Moser added seven. Maddie Abel recorded double-digit assists, totaling ten while Moser led the backline, making eight digs and Makynna Crook and Madalynn Skwarek made seven.
  • vs. Augustana
    • Augustana (4-5, 0-0 CCIW) came out like a force to be reckon with, going a 9-0 run before making it 14-2. The early proved to be massive as held that advantage to win the first set 25-12. The Raiders were able stay in the second set early thanks to errors from the Viking offense until they exploded once again, closing on a 14-1 run to win 25-9.
    • Ana Knutson kept the Raiders in arms reach to begin the third set, knocking in three kills to put the deficit at 9-8. The Vikings then used mini-runs for the remainder of the set clinch it 25-16.
    • Knutson led the offense with five kills, while Abel made six assists and Joelle Harrington right behind her making five. Martinez led the backline making 13 digs and Nina De La Cruz made nine digs.
