Papazoglou Powers Raiders Past Eagles

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's soccer team welcomed the Edgewood University Eagles to Viets Field on Wednesday night, as the Red and White remained unbeaten in conference play with a 3-1 triumph.

RESULT
Edgewood University Eagles – 1
MSOE RAIDERS – 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Raiders (4-4-1, 3-0-0 NACC) and Eagles (6-3-1, 2-1-0 NACC) went back-and-forth up the pitch with neither team being able to muster much on the offensive end, until a goal from Faith Papazoglou put MSOE up 1-0 at the 22:09 mark.  Mere minutes later the Raiders would convert a beautiful set-play from a free kick opportunity, as the give-and-go from Papazoglou to Elizabeth Kuhn put the Raiders up 2-0.  The Eagles would take advantage of chaos inside the box, getting their way on the scoreboard via own goal, as the two teams went to the break with MSOE leading 2-1.
  • Coming out of halftime, the physicality began to ramp up between two teams determined to stay undefeated in conference play, as the Eagles held off a flurry of Raider shots from Samantha FleischmanKit Gormley and Samantha Shaver.  After a yellow card assessed to the Raiders appeared to give a hint of momentum to Edgewood, the Eagles would commit a foul inside the box.  Papazaglou would be the one to make Edgewood pay for their mistake, fooling the Eagle goaltender on a penalty kick to give MSOE the 3-1 lead, which they held the rest of the way despite a chippy finish coming down the stretch.  The Raiders reach .500 for the first time this season after a gauntlet of out of conference opponents to start the season, as MSOE outshot Edgewood seventeen to six.
