MSOE RAIDERS - 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (8-8-2, 5-4-1 NCHA) held off an SNC (10-6-2, 7-2-2 NCHA) powerplay in the opening minutes of the contest, setting the tone for the defensive slugfest to follow. The Red and White were outshot 10-5 in the first twenty minutes of action, as the defense stood tall, with Gray Mandia and Hannah Baumann blocking shots and Laura Melizza saving each one she faced. The Raiders and Green Knights would remain scoreless after the second period, with each team successfully killing off a penalty to preserve their respective shutouts.
- In the final period of regulation, with just under six minutes left to play, a delayed penalty against St. Norbert gave the Raiders their best scoring opportunity of the evening. Baumann and Lexi Jackson won both faceoffs during their powerplay chance, but the SNC goalie stopped all five shots she faced from the MSOE powerplay as the teams needed extra time to decide a victor.
- After a roughing penalty was assessed against the Green Knights to start the overtime period, the Raiders looked to capitalize with the extra-attacker. MSOE would record nine shots in the overtime period, but it was not enough to beat the Green Knights, who are receiving votes in the national poll. SNC would convert on two out of three attempts while continuing to shutout the Raiders, with the teams settling for a tie in the conference standings after the morale victory in the shootout for SNC.
