Women's Hockey Clobbers the Sabres on the Road

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The MSOE women's hockey team remained unbeaten in the New Year, scoring their second consecutive victory as they walloped the Marian Sabres on the road to start their weekend series.

FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 6

Marian University – 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (6-7-1, 3-4-1 NCHA) clashed with Marian (5-7-0, 3-5-0 NCHA) in a non-conference matchup with the Raiders controlling the puck early, as Hannah Baumann gave the Red and White an early advantage off the feed from Gabi Heuser, finding the back of the net at the 8:42 mark of the first period.  Less than five minutes later, the Sabres would be assessed a cross-checking penalty, and the Raiders would successfully convert their powerplay opportunity as MaryFrancis Williams put MSOE up 2-0.  Jenna Kent and the Raiders penalty kill unit would stifle a late Sabre powerplay, as the Red and White went to the first intermission maintain their two-goal lead.
  • The Raiders would allow the first Marian goal of the game just before the four-minute mark of the second period, as the Sabres recorded a powerplay goal after a holding penalty against MSOE.  It wouldn't take long for the Raiders to bounce back, as the special teams continued to make waves, as Heuser recorded her fourth goal of the season to push the Red and White's lead to 3-1.  Williams would add her second powerplay goal of the night and third on the evening for the Raiders as MSOE went to the second intermission firing on all cylinders and ahead on the scoreboard 4-1.
  • In the third period, the Raiders continued to score consistently, running away with the game in the process.  Baumann added her second even strength goal of the evening just before the midway point of the third frame, with Arial Lapsa getting in on the fun at the 12:48 mark.  After the second period goal, Kent and the MSOE defense shut the Sabres down the rest of the way, with Kent posting 18 saves and the team recording 9 blocked shots in the 6-1 win.
