Men's Soccer Plays Second Half Short-Handed; Advances to NACC Tournament Semifinals

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 NACC Tournament on Sunday afternoon, as the Red and White played the final 30 minutes against the Lakeland Muskies shorthanded, tallying two goals in the final twelve minutes enroute to a victory at Viets Field.

RESULT

No. 6 Lakeland Muskies – 1
No. 3 MSOE RAIDERS – 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Raiders (11-4-4, 8-1-3 NACC) need just 6:03 to get in front of the No. 6 seed Muskies (11-7-4, 5-3-4 NACC) as Filip Aniecko placed a pass into the box to a diving Andrew Calderon, as the freshman nailed the header for the first goal of the afternoon, as the Viets Field crowd rose to their feet in approval.  The Muskies would even the odds with just under ten minutes to play in the first half, as the teams were in a stalemate with one goal apiece after the first half concluded.
  • Coming out of the break, the Raiders would play shorthanded after a red card was assessed against the Red and White, with Dean Schaefer stepping in to close things out for MSOE with just ten men left on the field.  With the clock showing less than twelve minutes to play in regulation, Lachlan Ladd would make the most of a crossing pass from Diego Gonzalo, scoring the Red and White's second header goal of the afternoon as they reclaimed the lead 2-1.
  • The Raiders would withstand the Muskies best efforts down the stretch, with Chase Frea and the MSOE defense helping out their freshman goalkeeper by allowing just two shots on goal in the second half.  From there, Nico Picha would add the icing on the cake following an unassisted goal with 30 seconds left to play, as the Raiders advanced to the NACC Tournament semifinals after beating Lakeland for the second time this season.
