MILWAUKEE – The MSOE Women's Hockey team tallied two third-period goals on Saturday night as they closed out the regular season and celebrated Senior Day with a 2-1 win over Lake Forest College.
FINAL SCORE
Lake Forest College – 1
MSOE RAIDERS - 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (11-12-2, 8-8-2 NCHA) and LFC (11-14-0, 9-9-0 NCHA) flipped the script on yesterday's high scoring affair, as both teams slugged it out in a defensive minded clash. Each team killed off two first-period penalties in a scoreless first frame, with the Raiders being outshot by the Foresters eleven to two. The Raiders would come up short on both of their powerplay opportunities in the second period, despite good chances from both Sara Kopf and Lexi Jackson. MSOE and LFC would remain deadlocked going to the third period, as Jenna Kent recorded 21 saves across the first 40 minutes of play.
- With neither team able to score after 50+ minutes in regulation it was Anna Faulkner who tallied the go-ahead power-play goal for MSOE, her first goal of the season, as the Raiders were able to take advantage of an LFC hooking penalty. With time winding down, the Foresters would pull their goalie for the extra attacker, as Hannah Baumann notched the empty-net game-winner, just 17 seconds after the netminder was pulled. The Foresters would tally a goal with 89 seconds left in regulation, but it was too little to late as the Raiders held on to win.
