GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.– The MSOE men's lacrosse team opened their 2026 campaign against the Carthage Firebirds on Saturday afternoon, as the Raiders dropped their season opener after struggling to find the back of the net against their regional foe.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 9
Calvin Knights – 13
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (2-2) took an early lead over Calvin (4-0) after Paul Brueck assisted Andrew Toman to give the Raiders the early advantage. The Knights would answer back with two goals in a two-minute span to regain the lead, but another Toman goal tied things up for the Red and White. Tom Farren would answer another Calvin goal with an unassisted effort of his own, before Isaac Johnston took advantage of penalty on the Knights to give MSOE a 4-3 lead after the man-up goal. After the back-and-forth first quarter, the second quarter belonged to the Knights, as they outscored the Raiders seven goals to one on the way to a 10-5 halftime lead in favor of Calvin.
- The third quarter saw both teams allow just one goal, as the Raiders went to the fourth quarter trailing 11-6 after another goal from Farren. Farren would notch two more goals to secure his second hat trick of the season, and second in as many weeks, but it was not enough for the Red and White to complete the comeback as they come up short in their first road trip of the regular season.
