MILWAUKEE– The MSOE men's lacrosse team opened their 2026 campaign against the Carthage Firebirds on Saturday afternoon, as the Raiders dropped their season opener after struggling to find the back of the net against their regional foe.
RESULT
Carthage Firebirds – 10
MSOE RAIDERS – 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders (0-1) fell behind the Firebirds (1-0) early on after a Carthage goal just 90 seconds into the contest. The Raiders would successfully hold off an extra man opportunity from Carthage, but another Firebird goal with 4:47 left in the first quarter put the Raiders down 2-0 heading to the second frame. The Firebirds would open the first quarter with two goals in a span of 39 seconds to go up 4-0 on the Raiders by the 10:34 mark of the first half. Carter Stahl would finally get the Red and White on the board with just over a minute remaining in the first half, as the Raiders trailed 5-1 at the break.
- The third quarter saw both teams batten the hatches on the defensive end, with just one goal scored between both clubs. The Raiders would go a man-up after a Carthage unnecessary roughness penalty, but the Red and White were unable to generate any offense. Looking to mount a fourth-quarter comeback, Isaac Johnston and Will Malecha each had scoring chances for the Raiders, but the Firebirds smothered their chances. Carthage would push their lead to 8-1, and after Tom Farren notched the second MSOE goal of the afternoon, the Raiders had run out of time. The Firebirds would strike twice more to close the contest with the Raiders dropped the first game of the season-opening homestand.
