Scarlet Hawks Stun Raiders in Defensive Clash

CHICAGO, Ill. – The MSOE men's lacrosse team was halted by Illinois Tech on Wednesday night, as the Scarlet Hawks edged out the Raiders in a low-scoring conference clash.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 5
Illinois Tech – 6

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (7–4, 3-1 NACC) and Illinois Tech (4-7, 4-1 NACC) were scoreless through the first half of the first quarter, with the Scarlet Hawks being the team to get on the board first at the 7:14 mark, before extending their lead to 2-0 with 2:30 left in the opening frame.  Jack Civottolo would get the Raiders on the board with just five seconds left in the first quarter.  That would be the only Red and White goal of the first half, as the Scarlet Hawks shut out the Raiders in the second quarter, tallying three more goals to go up 5-1 at the break.
  • After the halftime break and another goal from Illinois Tech, Andrew Toman would find the back of the net for the second MSOE goal of the evening, with Carter Stahl adding his first goal of the game a mere 47 seconds later, bringing the MSOE deficit to three goals at 6-3.  Stahl would add his second goal as the third quarter began to wind down with the Raiders trailing 6-4 with one frame remaining.  MSOE and Illinois Tech's defenses continued to be stout in the fourth quarter, as both teams were scoreless in the first 13:53 of the final frame.  Will Malecha would tally a man-up goal with just 67 seconds left to play after a Scarlet Hawk tripping penalty, but the Red and White ran out of time as they fell to their conference foe in the defensive-minded clash.
