Softball Drops Doubleheader to UW-La Crosse

GLENDALE, Wis. – The MSOE softball team fell in a nonconference clash to the UW-La Crosse Eagles on Thursday afternoon, as the Red and White were unable to get back in the win column during their doubleheader.

RESULTS

UW-La Crosse – 3
MSOE RAIDERS - 1

UW-La Crosse – 5
MSOE RAIDERS –3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • MSOE (3-17, 0-6 NACC) trailed UW-La Crosse (15-8) after the Eagles brought across their first run of the game on a solo homerun in the top of the first inning.  The Raiders would get back in the mix as they took advantage of back-to-back errors from the Eagles, as an Olivia Beals single loaded the bases before a Reese Konczal sacrifice fly, allowed Jayda Nelson to score, tying the game up at 1-1.
    • In the top of the fourth inning, the Eagles would regain the lead on a two-out single to go back up 2-1 on the Red and White.  From there, UW-La Crosse held the Raiders to just one hit across the final four innings as MSOE dropped the first leg of the twin bill by a score of 3-1.
  • Game Two
    • In game two, it was the Raiders who would strike first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after an Emma Smith leadoff single kicked off the second leg of the doubleheader.  Just two batters, Rikka Ludvigson drove a ball to centerfield for a double, allowing Smith to come around for the opening run of game two to give the Red and White the early advantage at 1-0.  La Crosse would take the lead in the top of third, recording two runs on two hits and two walks.
    •  The Raiders would have a chance to take the lead back in the fourth after a single from Caroline Fouras and walk from Konczal, but the Eagles would force two groundouts to end the MSOE threat.  The Raiders would add their second run on an RBI double from Nelson in the fifth, but would find themselves trailing 5-2 in the final frame.  The Raiders would spark a short rally that saw Carlee Emery drive a double to left center that brought Smith across one more time, but time ran out on the Red and White comeback as the Eagles completed the sweep in Glendale.
