MSOE Offense Keeps Rolling In 5-0 Win

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Two days after six players scored goals, the MSOE women's soccer team had five different players find the back of the net in posting its fifth-straight win with a 5-0 victory over Benedictine Saturday afternoon at MSOE Field.

The Raiders (8-6, 5-1 NACC) are outscoring opponents 21-2 in their current winning streak and have won their last three league games to move to 5-1 in NACC play.

MSOE got on the board in just the fourth minute following a corner kick. The ball was played back out to sophomore Aly Leopfe, who re-introduced the ball into the penalty area with a low cross. Freshman Erika Spanbauer then re-directed the ball into the net for her second goal of the season.

Freshman Ally Brehm then doubled the Raider advantage when she got on the board in the 24th minute off an assist from sophomore Natalie Gayner and senior Paula Bohl. The lead would grow to 3-0 before halftime, as freshman Sara Travia scored her team-high 10th goal of the season unassisted from the top of the box.

After the break, MSOE continued to go at the Eagles, making it 4-0 in the 53rd minute. Bohl was the scorer this time, dribbling into the box down the left side and finishing to the far post.

Sophomore Caitlin Liddiard then capped the scoring in the final minute, finishing from the top of the box with another long-distance goal.

The Raiders used the early goal to their advantage, seizing the momentum from the opening minutes and conceding little throughout the match. They held a 17-8 shot advantage and 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

The defense did its best to limit Nikki Jhanji, who entered the day with a share of the league lead with 11 goals. She finished with five shots in the match, but freshman Sydney Stephens made a tremendous reaction save from point-blank range on her only shot on goal.

Stephens stopped one other shot on target for her second shutout of the season. It was her fourth-straight appearance in which she did not allow a goal, a shutout streak of over 325 minutes.

MSOE looks to continue its winning ways when Aurora comes to MSOE Field Wednesday. It will be a showdown of two of the four NACC teams with one or fewer losses. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
