Box Score MILWAUKEE – Nicci Bermudes scored her second goal of the match in overtime as the MSOE women's soccer team lost to Aurora 2-1 Wednesday night at MSOE Field.
The Raiders (8-7, 5-2 NACC) saw their five-match winning streak fall at the hands of the Spartans (11-2, 7-1 NACC), but played AU tough throughout.
The golden goal came as MSOE was unable to clear a ball out of its defensive third. The ball came to Bermudes, who launched a shot to the far post from 30 yards out for the winner just under three minutes into the extra time.
MSOE had jumped on the board first early on its first shot of the match. Senior Paula Bohl ran the ball down to the endline in the penalty area. She cut inside and centered a pass in front of the goal for Travia, who capitalized for her 11th goal in just the ninth minute.
The Red and White defense then took over, keeping the Spartans at bay for much of the remainder of the half. The majority of what shots AU had, were from some distance.
An ill-timed foul by the Raiders gave Aurora a free kick just off the edge of the penalty gave it the chance it needed in the 43rd minute. Jenee Lange sent her free kick to the near post where Nicci Bermudes was to head into the goal for the equalizer.
In the second half, the Raiders went at Aurora, using the visitor's pressuring style to get a number of dangerous scoring chances.
Travia's goal marked the sixth-straight match in which she has tallied a point. She's scored six goals and assisted on three more in that time.
Freshman Sydney Stephens made 10 saves in a strong match played in goal, as the Spartans forged a 26-11 shot advantage. MSOE put five of its shots on frame, with a pair of AU keepers combining on four saves.
The Raiders return to action Saturday at Concordia Wisconsin in Mequon. The game kicks off at 3:30 p.m.
