Box Score LISLE, Ill. – Junior Jeremiah Erdmann and freshman Collin Seubert scored 14 points apiece to pace the MSOE men's basketball team in a 59-56 victory over Benedictine Saturday evening at the Rice Center.
The Raiders (7-2, 4-2 NACC) strung a 20-4 run over the end of the first half and the start of the second to take a 16-point lead, but had to hold off the Eagles (4-7, 2-4 NACC) and their free throws down the stretch to win their fourth-straight game.
MSOE was leading 21-20 with just under three minutes remaining in the first half before rattling off eight-straight points to push its lead to nine at the break. After Tahron Harvey opened the second half with a three-pointer for BenU, the Raiders extended their lead with a 12-1 stretch to pull ahead 40-24.
The Eagles would answer with an extended 20-8 run to pull within four points at 48-44 with 4:30 remaining. The home team used 10-straight free throws to make it a ballgame once again.
Just over two minutes later, four more Benedictine free throws over two possessions made it a two-point game at 52-50. Seubert and Harvey then traded baskets and Seubert answered with a three-pointer for some breathing room at 57-52.
Tim McGinty made it a one-possession game with a pair of free throws in the final minute, but senior Jaren Singh hit a clutch fade-away jumper with just seven ticks on the clock to push MSOE's lead to five. Benedictine would get a look at a three-pointer on its next possession, but it was off the mark and the home team got a layup at the buzzer to provide for the final score.
Erdmann and Seubert were the only Raiders in double-figures, but sophomore Austin Stueck added nine points to go with five assists with Singh and senior John Cording chipping in eight points each.
Harvey scored a game-high 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double to lead BenU. Michael Blaszczyk chipped in 13 points, going 9-for-9 at the free throw line.
MSOE returns to action in California, playing at La Verne on Dec. 28 and Occidental Dec. 30.
