Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The MSOE men's soccer team scored two early goals and junior Garrett Farin (Madison, Wis./East) made six saves to make it hold up, as the Raiders defeated Kalamazoo 2-0 Friday evening in the season-opener for both teams.
Senior Drew Porter (Milwaukee, Wis./Dominican) and sophomore Brock Shilling (New Berlin, Wis./West) each found the back of the net to lead the Red and White (1-0).
Porter got on the board in just the ninth minute off an assist from Shilling for what ended up as the game-winner. In the 16th minute, Shilling added an insurance goal of his own, his with an assist from sophomore Michael Skow (Mequon, Wis./Homestead).
Farin did his part in goal to earn the shutout, as the teams combined for 42 shots and 17 on goal. The Raiders held a 24-18 shot advantage, forcing the Hornets keeper Beau Prey into eight saves. His defense also backed him up, getting a team save on a Skow header that led to MSOE's second goal.
Sophomore Logan Andryk (Hartland, Wis./Marquette) was a constant threat for the Raiders, finishing with a game-high nine shots and three shots on goal.
MSOE returns to action in Kalamazoo Saturday, taking on Olivet at 2 p.m.
