Cording Saves Raiders At Concordia Chicago

Box Score

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Senior John Cording hit a pair of free throws with seven seconds remaining and came up with the game-clinching steal at the buzzer to lead the MSOE men's basketball team to a 65-64 victory over Concordia Chicago Saturday afternoon at Geiseman Gymnasium.

The Raiders (13-3, 8-3 NACC) won its school-record sixth-straight road game, while exacting revenge on the Cougars (5-11, 2-10 NACC) for their last defeat Jan. 4 at the Kern Center in Milwaukee.

MSOE was leading by eight with 5:54 remaining in the game when sophomore Austin Stueck hit a jumper to put his team ahead 56-48. CUC responded with eight-straight points to tie the game at 56-56 with 3:55 to go.

The Cougars would pull ahead 63-60 on a three-pointer by Brandon Stinson at 2:25, but Stueck answered with a three of his own 28 seconds later. With just over a minute remaining, Concordia hit 1-of-2 free throws to take the 64-63 lead. The Raiders got the rebound, but missed on a three-point chance with 52 seconds remaining. CUC then got the rebound and ran down the shot clock before missing on a three-point attempt of its own with just 17 seconds on the clock.

MSOE came away with a team rebound on the missed three and called timeout. When play was resumed, Cording was fouled with just seven seconds remaining and hit both free throw attempts. It set up one more possession for Concordia, but, after a timeout with four seconds to go, Cording came up with a big steal just before the buzzer.

The two free throws represented half of Cording's scoring total for the game, as he scored just four points, but dished out nine assists and had three steals. Stueck once again topped 20 points, scoring a game-high 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting.

Sophomore Connor Patterson finished with 13 points and seven rebounds, while senior Jaren Singh added 12 points.

Stinson led Concordia Chicag with 18 points. Mike Walmer scored 13 points and Marcus Elston finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.

The Red and White have won 10 of their last 11 games and return to the floor Wednesday at Lakeland.
