Late Three Sinks Raiders Against Benedictine

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Tahron Harvey hit the game-winning three-pointer with 3.4 seconds remaining as the MSOE men's basketball team suffered a 62-61 defeat to Benedictine Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (1-2, 0-1 NACC) led by one and had the ball with 30 seconds to go, but the Eagles (2-0, 1-0 NACC) came up with a steal to set up the final possession.

Junior Austin Stueck led MSOE with 25 points for the second-straight game, going 8-of-12 from the field and adding seven rebounds. He was the lone player in double-figures for the home team, as sophomore Collin Suebert tallied eight points and junior Brent Radlinger finished with seven.

John Dodson led BenU with 14 points. Tim McGinty scored 13 and Harvey finished with 10.

Seubert made a pair of free throws with 39 seconds remaining in the game to stake the Raiders to a 61-56 advantage. But, the Eagles got a quick three-pointer from McGinty nine seconds later to make it a one-possession game.

After a visitor timeout, Benedictine pressured the inbounds and Kevin Rollins came away with a steal with 24 seconds to go. BenU held the ball for one try and Michael Blaszczyk found Harvey in the corner as he stumbled to the ground for the decisive basket.

MSOE had led almost the entire game, scoring the first four points of the afternoon and building a lead as high as seven in the first half. The Eagles fought back to within one at 28-27 at halftime and took the lead early in the second half at 32-33.

Their lead would peak at 39-34 before the Raiders rattled off an 11-0 run to re-take the lead at 45-39. The home advantage peaked at nine points, but BenU fought back again to keep it close down the stretch and keep its chances alive.

MSOE shot 41.2 percent in the game and was 17-of-20 from the free throw line, but connected on just 2-of-11 three-point attempts. The visitors shot nearly 60 percent in the second half to finish at 47.8 percent for the day. They connected on 7-of-11 from downtown to offset an 11-for-22 performance at the charity stripe.

The Raiders will look to rebound when they return to the court Tuesday at No. 4 Illinois Wesleyan.
