Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. – Claremont-Mudd-Scripps shot over 56 percent from the field in the game to hand the MSOE women's basketball team its first loss in almost four weeks, 89-63, Tuesday evening at Mudd College's Linde Activities Center.
The Raiders (9-2) saw their seven-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the Athenas (8-3) in the second game of their California road trip.
The sophomore tandem of Holly Denfeld and Shaylan Reardon had another big game after scoring 20 points each on Monday evening. Denfeld posted another double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds on 7-of-11 shooting. Reardon hit four 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 19 points.
Junior Megan Kroll added 14 points for MSOE.
CMS put five players in double-figures, led by Kris Brackman's 17 points. Kailee Severt scored 14, Kimberly Scamman had 13, Alyson Young 12 and Claire Donnelly 10.
The Athenas used a 13-1 run in the first half to break a 20-20 draw and headed into halftime with a 46-36 advantage. They still led 54-46 with 12:45 remaining in the game before rattling off a decisive 18-2 run over a 6:10 span to take a commanding 72-48 lead with 6:35 to go.
MSOE shot 40 percent from the field and hit on 6-of-14 from three-point range. The team also converted on 17-of-23 from the free throw line. CMS made 31-of-55 field goal attempts in the game, including 6-of-13 three-pointers, to keep the Red & White at bay.
The Raiders return to action Saturday at Concordia Chicago.
