Box Score MILWAUKEE - Senior John Cording and sophomore Austin Stueck each scored 22 points as the MSOE men's basketball team erased a 13-point second-half deficit and handed Benedictine an 80-74 loss in overtime Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (18-4, 13-4 NACC) trailed 47-34 early in the second half, but rattled off 17-straight points to take the lead. They would then need overtime to overcome the Eagles (10-11, 8-8 NACC).
On senior day, Cording added to his 22 points with five assists and two steals. Stueck scored nine-straight points at one point during MSOE's run, finishing 9-of-15 from the field. Sophomore Connor Patterson also reached double-figures, finishing with 13 points.
Tim McGinty and Michael Woolf led BenU with 19 points each. Kane Steger added 14 off the bench and Michael Blaszyk finished with 10.
It was a Blaszyk three that gave the visitors a 47-34 lead six minutes into the half. Over the next eight-plus minutes, it was all Raiders. Stueck scored the next nine points of the game. Sophomore Brent Radlinger followed with back-to-back three's to thrust MSOE into the lead and senior Jaren Singh capped the run with a pair of free throws.
While the Red and White did not trail again, it could not get separation from the Eagles. Woolf tied the game at 65-65 with 44 seconds remaining, but both teams missed go-ahead field goal tries in the final seconds to send the game to extra time.
Stueck opened overtime with a three-point play and the Raiders scored six-straight points later to pull away in overtime and get the win.
MSOE shot 50 percent from the field for the game and hit on 7-of-17 from three-point range. The team also got to the free throw line 33 times, making 27.
There were a number of notable achievements in the game, as Raiders won their 18th game of the season, tied for the second-most in school history and one back of the school record. It was also their fifth overtime win this season.
The Red and White returns to action Tuesday, heading to Mequon to take on Concordia Wisconsin.
