Box Score 2 LISLE, Ill. – The MSOE softball team dropped a pair of games to Benedictine in a rain-soaked doubleheader Sunday afternoon at the Benedictine Sports Complex.
The Raiders (14-12, 6-8 NACC) fell to the Eagles (17-10, 9-5 NACC) 10-2 in game one. After a rain delay between games, BenU took the second game 6-1.
MSOE scored first in both games, plating a run in the first inning each time. In game one, the Eagles equaled the score in the second inning and the Raiders regained its lead at 2-1 with another run in the third.
Benedictine then tallied multiple runs in the next four innings to end the game after six innings. The home team plated three to seize the lead in the bottom half of the third inning and two in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Sophomore Lauren Boyle doubled in a run in the first inning of game two to put her team in the lead once again. This time, Ben U tied the score in the third inning before a second rain delay.
When play resumed, the Eagles pushed across a run in the fifth inning and scored four times in the sixth.
Freshman Sara McConnell (8-6) got the decision in both games, starting the opener and going four innings. She then came on in relief in game two and hurled the final five innings. In nine innings, she surrendered 15 hits, 12 runs (eight earned), struck out three and walked four.
Boyle led the team with three hits on the day, while McConnell finished with a pair of base hits.
MSOE is back in action in a doubleheader Tuesday, playing at former NACC foe Maranatha Baptist.
